We have arrived in Italy!
We meet our local representative and transfer to our hotel in the town of Frascati. Join us tonight for a welcome dinner in our hotel.
Walking tour of Frascati
This morning, after breakfast, we join our guide for a walking tour of Frascati. We will explore the local shops and botteghes. Here we will savour some celebrated local delicacies such as roasted pork, focaccia bread, biscotti — just out of the antique wood-fired oven, and jug wine from the oldest tavern in town. Be sure to save room for our included lunch in a hand-picked local fraschetta (typical rustic restaurant) famous for its porchetta.
Take the afternoon to wander & explore more of Frascati town at your leisure, exploring the cobblestone streets and alleyways. Our guide will be happy to offer suggestions on activities in the local area.
Guided Walking Tour of Rome
Let’s join our guide this morning and travel by coach to Ancient Rome. Today, we will explore the city on a guided walking tour while taking in the sights of the Colosseum and Roman Forum (both viewed from outside), as well as discovering Piazza Venezia and the Trevi Fountain. We will have free time for lunch, shopping and sightseeing before returning to Frascati in the late afternoon.
Pontifical Villas of Castel Gandolfo and Nemi
Join us for a full day excursion exploring the Alban Hills. We start our day with a visit to Castel Gandolfo, known as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy! In a splendid position overlooking Lake Albano, Castle Gandolfo is situated on the brink of a volcanic crater. Our guide will take us on a visit to the famous Papal Palace, where Popes have spent their summers since the 17th century. Enjoy some free time to refuel with lunch or explore further before our afternoon visit to Nemi.
This afternoon we will travel to the town of Nemi, known for its delicious strawberries. The countryside of Rome and the Lazio region hosts a number of varieties of sweet flavoursome strawberries. Romans, however, associate strawberries with Nemi. The small, flavoursome strawberry from Nemi is also known, because of its size, as the “fragolina”. Since ancient times, the Nemi strawberry has been sold on the market stalls of Rome between May and September. Today we will indulge in a tasting of traditional tartlets with strawberries before we make our way back to the hotel for the evening.
Enjoy a full day at leisure to relax in Frascati. Take this opportunity to further explore the surrounding town or take a 40min train ride into Rome for some more sightseeing. Our guide will be on hand to provide details on public transport and activities in the local area.
Guided tour of Anagni
Following a leisurely breakfast, we set off by coach to explore Anagni, nicknamed ‘the land of the Popes’. Walking through the city, we will admire its majestic Cathedral and the famous "building of the Popes". Exploring the city centre, we will be drawn to other significant buildings such as the town hall and the exterior of Barnekow’s noble house. We will explore the Cathedral of Anagni and its precious Crypt containing the remains of Saint Magus. The Cathedral is known as the second Sistine Chapel with its elegant interior housing precious artworks, religious relics and frescoes.
We return to Frascati this afternoon for time at leisure or enjoy a coffee, gelato or glass of wine at a local cafe!
Enjoy your last free day to explore more of Frascati or perhaps head into Rome for some last-minute sightseeing or shopping. Join us tonight for a farewell dinner in a local restaurant.
