    Travel with us to the home of Port wine on this 3-night city break to Porto. Located along the hills of the Douro River estuary, this charming UNESCO World Heritage city is perfect for a short holiday. The city’s magnificent architecture, delicious Port wine and friendly atmosphere have made it a favourite of holiday makers for years. On this exciting Portugal trip, we’ll visit some of Porto’s most famous sites including its historic centre, the ornate Bolsa Palace, and the beautiful Douro riverfront, all with a local, expert guide to give us the history of the city as we explore. This holiday also includes plenty of free time for you to discover the city’s hidden gems, try some of Porto’s local delicacies like Tripas à Moda do Porto (Porto Tripe) or simply relax with a glass of Port at a pavement café.

    Please note that some excursions on this holiday will involve walking on hilly terrain and uneven surfaces.

    Guided Tour of Porto

    After breakfast, your local guide will take you on a tour of Porto, including a bus sightseeing tour through the historical centre, a visit to the Stock Exchange Palace and to the train station Sao Bento, one of the hidden treasures of Porto. Enjoy a short walk along the Douro riverfront and enjoy the view of the World Heritage area. The tour will finish with a wine tasting in one of the Port cellars.

    You will have the rest of the day to spend at your leisure. You could explore Santa Catarina Street to see the colours and vibes of an authentic part of the city. There are several pretty squares in the Ribeira quarter where you can relax with a drink after your day of sightseeing.

    Free Time at Leisure in Porto

    You will have today to explore the city at your leisure. Your local guide will be happy to give advice on activities to suit your interests. For incredible views of the city you can climb to the top of Clerigos Church or for a more leisurely aspect of the city take a lazy boat ride down the Douro River under Porto's six bridges, on board a Rabelo Barco a boat originally used to transport Port wine. Culture vultures can enjoy Porto's many museums, galleries and the wonderful architecture throughout the city. A visit to Livraria Lello book shop is well worth the venture (especially for Harry Potter fans) with the ornate wooden staircase and a wide range of books for sale. Of course you can't go to Portugal without trying the famous Pastel de Nata pasteries fresh from the bakeries.

    One of the hottest new attractions on the Gaia side, are the new WOW museums, featuring seven museums; including the Wine Experience, dedicated to both amateur and experienced wine enthusiasts a great way to spend a few hours.
