    Full Day Excursion Battambang

    8

Countryside by Remork & Local Bamboo Train

This morning, set off by Remork (Cambodian tuk tuk) to explore Battambang’s scenic countryside and meet local families. Watch how long-standing traditions are kept alive with the making of rice paper, dried bananas, and bamboo sticky rice, prepared just as they have been for generations. Gain a deeper understanding of everyday life in Cambodia’s rural communities.

You’ll also stop at a traditional Khmer house to taste seasonal fruits and enjoy a cooling coconut water, before visiting a memorial site honouring victims of the Khmer Rouge. Today includes a simple lunch served in a Cambodian home.

In the afternoon, step inside a Buddhist temple to learn more about the faith that lies at the heart of Cambodian culture. Continue with a visit to French colonial landmarks that reflect a more recent chapter in the country’s history. Later, return to the hotel to refresh before heading out once more.

    Experience the Bamboo Train

All aboard! This afternoon we head out to experience the original Bamboo Train – a one-of-a-kind Cambodian adventure. We’ll perch on a simple bamboo platform and set off along the tracks, feeling the breeze in our hair as the train gently rolls through the beautiful countryside.

Please note: The Bamboo train is not a traditional train journey; it is like a hand pumped section car. You will be seated on top of a bamboo platform; agility for sitting or sitting crossed legged is required as there are no seats. This is the traditional way to ride the bamboo train.

After our exciting Bamboo Train ride, we’ll make a fun stop at Cambodia’s one and only vineyard! While the country isn’t famous for its wines (and probably won’t be any time soon), the vineyard does produce some unusual, and rather healthy drinks, including fermented ginger and honey probiotics.

We’ll then head back to the hotel for a chance to relax and freshen up.

This evening, we’ll come together to enjoy dinner at a local Cambodian restaurant (included).

Battambang to Phnom Penh & S21 Prison

    9

Historic Toul Sleng (S21 Prison) Visit

We leave Battambang early this morning, travelling on the new road to Phnom Penh. The drive takes around five hours with rest stops along the way, and we’ll arrive in the afternoon to check in at our hotel.

Later, we’ll visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21 prison), once a high school but turned into a prison and interrogation centre during the Pol Pot era. From here, prisoners were sent to the Killing Fields of Cheung Ek. Many will recall the powerful film The Killing Fields, which brought this tragic chapter of Cambodia’s history to the world’s attention.

After this moving visit, we’ll balance the day with a stop at Psah Tuol Tom Pong, a bustling market where you can browse stalls selling everything from jewellery and silk to t-shirts and tasty street food.

We then continue to the riverside, where we’ll pause for a refreshing drink (not included) at a local bar, before heading to a nearby restaurant for dinner (included).

Afterwards, we return to our hotel to relax for the evening.

Phnom Penh – Royal Palace & Half Day Tour

    10

    Royal Palace & Wat Phnom

We start the day with an early visit to the Royal Palace, built in 1866 by King Norodom. Here we can admire the beautiful Silver Pagoda, named for its 5,000 gleaming silver tiles, and see treasures such as the solid gold Buddha decorated with diamonds and the striking emerald Buddha.

Please note: To visit the Royal Palace, visitors are required to wear proper attire to enter. Please cover shoulders and knees. This is still considered a sacred site. No shorts, short skirts or short trousers are permitted.

After basking in the glory of the Royal Palace we make our way to Wat Phnom “hill temple” the tallest and most important temple in Phnom Penh. The green garden offers a pleasant respite from the noise and chaos of the bustling streets of Phnom Penh.

We enjoy some lunch (included) at a local restaurant before returning to our hotel.

At Leisure – Optional Street Food Tour

After we have free time at leisure to further explore the area, or relax in our hotel after our days adventure.

Alternatively we can savour the flavours of Cambodia on a food tour.

Optional Phnom Penh Street Food Tour

In the evening, dive into the exotic local street food and vibrant nightlife of Phnom Penh. Soak up the sights, smells, sounds, and tastes of the city by Remork as we embark on a culinary journey with a local expert, learning about Cambodia’s popular dishes like Non-Ban Chok (rice noodles). Visit bustling markets and small street vendors to taste the unique flavours of Cambodian street food. The night culminates with live music from the 1960s golden era of Rock n Roll at a lively restaurant. Finally, indulge in a secret dessert stop. For those who wish to continue, enjoy the nightlife at local bars or return to your hotel. ‘Minimum numbers apply for the operation of this tour pre bookable.
