Let’s experience some of Leinster's finest gardens on this short garden break in Ireland. The first stop of our garden holiday will be Rosie Maye’s garden who you may also know as the blogger ‘Insomniac Gardener’ who has a wonderful passion for gardening. We’ll learn more about the Irish and World War One poet Francis Ledwidge, who was tragically killed in the Great War, by visiting his birthplace which is now a museum. We’ll discover Kilgar House Garden, uncover an important part of Irish history at the Battle of the Boyne centre, then explore the historic Collon House Gardens, which was home to the last speaker of the Irish House of Commons. Next we’ll see the 15th century Barmeath Castle, which has belonged to the Bellew family since the 1670s, and later we’ll enjoy a guided tour of Beaulieu House & Garden, located on the Boyne river. Before returning home, our final highlights will be the charming Cottages at Bettystown and John Lord’s acclaimed garden centre. Kilgar House Gardens & The Battle of the Boyne Centre
Depart Dublin & Kilgar House Gardens
This morning, we depart from The Alex Hotel in Dublin and travel to Kilgar House Garden, a tranquil three-acre haven featuring a beautiful blend of formal and informal planting. Surrounding the charming house, the gardens offer a peaceful and inspiring setting to begin our holiday.
The Battle of the Boyne Centre
Our next visit is to the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre, where we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the grounds and gardens that bring this pivotal moment in Irish history to life. There will be free time for lunch (at own expense) before we continue to our hotel.
The Poppy Garden & Collon House Garden

After a leisurely breakfast, we journey into the heart of the Boyne Valley to visit The Poppy Garden, a delightful and imaginative space opened in 2023. Full of quirky features and thoughtful design, it’s a joyful celebration of gardening creativity.
Collon House Gardens
Following lunch at your leisure in the village of Duleek (at own expense), we visit the elegant Collon House Gardens. With its classical Georgian architecture and beautifully restored period planting, enjoy a guided tour through its sunken box parterres, herbaceous borders, and Greek-style summer house.
The Cottages at Bettystown and Killineer House & Gardens

Today begins with a visit to The Cottages at Bettystown, where guests can stroll through the extensive organic flower gardens surrounding the charming thatched holiday homes.
Killineer House & Gardens
After free time for lunch (at own expense) at Café Twenty Twenty in Dunleer, we continue to Killineer House & Gardens. This magnificent Regency home is surrounded by 16 acres of landscaped gardens including the Laurel Lawn, Wild Garden and a traditional Walled Vegetable Garden – a true gem of County Louth.
Rosie Maye’s Garden & Ratoath Garden Centre
Rosie Maye’s Garden
This morning, we check out of our hotel and travel to Rosie Maye’s award-winning garden in Mullaghdillon, near Slane. Set across three acres, her garden is a vibrant and varied space with woodland walks, Mediterranean planting, rose beds and more – all lovingly tended by one of Ireland’s best-known gardeners.
Ratoath Garden Centre & Return to Dublin
We’ll then enjoy free time for lunch (at own expense) at the Pillo Hotel in Ashbourne before a final stop at John Lord’s renowned Ratoath Garden Centre. The inspiring garden and nursery are a favourite among Irish garden lovers. After our guided visit, we return to The Alex Hotel, Dublin, bringing our wonderful garden holiday to a close.
