During this magical trip, explore the historic towns that hug the coast of Lake Garda and stroll through quaint streets and squares, all set in the tranquil surroundings of blue waters and towering mountains. A riveting visit to the opera in Verona also awaits.

During the tour you will take in an unforgettable performance of Aida at the Arena di Verona,which is sure to leave you spellbound.  Composed in 1871, this four act Opera is one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most famous works as a composer. Marvel at the story of the Ethiopian Princess and her lover Radames.

There are also two wonderful excursions included in this 7 night trip. In Venice, gaze upon St. Mark’s Basilica, watch gondolas sail along the canals, and admire the stunning piazzas, bridges and gothic buildings that make this city so magnificent. You will also take a guided boat trip to view some of the beautiful sites and places of interest on the lake.

Lake Garda is renowned for its mild and pleasant climate. The weather is most warm and dry in spring and autumn. Summers are warm and winter days can be cool. Mist often enhances Venice’s mysterious atmosphere.

Food & Drink

Northern Italian food tends to be richer and heartier than that found in Italy’s Mediterranean regions, but no less delicious, with fine cheeses, cured meats, risottos and filled pastas on every menu. Try fresh water fish from the lake, drizzled with olive oil and juice from local lemons and accompany it with a glass of fragrant white Nosiola or Lugana wine. The high quality meats from the Alpine regions may be matched with a classic Valpolicella or refreshing Bardolino.  Exquisite seasonal specialities such as chestnuts, pears and peaches will enhance your Lake Garda dining pleasure.

Lake Garda

Riva del Garda - Surrounded by imposing mountains and sparkling blue water, this town is known for its medieval towers, Renaissance churches, and narrow cobblestone streets. The Bastion, a Venetian fortress, was built on the steep slopes of the nearby Mount Rocchetta and affords a splendid view of the city and the northern part of the lake.

Piazza III Novembre – as well as being filled with history, this square is an ideal location to take a rest after a long day of sightseeing with a cool drink or glass of local wine.

Venice

St. Mark's Square & Basilica – the main public square in Venice and one of the most famous in the world, every day hundreds of tourists descend on this magnificent public space. The Basilica is one of the most spectacular in the world, both in its façade and interior. The numerous domes and arches are adorned with an incredible array of artistic, iconographic and religious works from some of the greatest Italian and European artist throughout the centuries. 

Ca' d'Oro – This magnificent Gothic structure houses the Galleria Franchetti, an impressive collection of bronzes, tapestries and paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries, with many works by Titian. A big incentive for visiting is the chance to take in the panorama from the balconies over the Grand Canal on the first and second floors.

Verona

Roman Amphitheatre - This arena, completed around 30 AD, is the third largest in Italy, after the Colosseum in Rome and the arena at Capua. It measures 139 metres long and 110 metres wide and would seat some 25,000 spectators.

Opera Performance Built in the 1st century, the Arena de Verona is a Roman Amphitheatre that welcomes over half a million visitors every year to view some of the greatest Opera performances in the world. Here, you will experience the 4 act Opera Nabucco that established Giuseppe Verdi as a first class composer. The Opera follows the plight of the Jews as they are exiled from their homeland by the Babylonian King Nabucco.

Trip Itinerary - Day by day

Day 1 – Travel to Italy

Upon arrival in Italy, you will be met in the arrivals area of the airport by our local representative who will accompany you to your hotel, located in the beautiful town of Riva del Garda. As you travel to your hotel, your guide will share some information about the local region, suggest activities for you to enjoy and answer any questions you may have.

Day 2 – Tour around Lake Garda by boat

After breakfast, join your guide for a short walking tour of Riva.  Following this, you’ll board a private boat for a unique sightseeing tour. Your first stop will be at Limone, a small village backed by lemon groves, with waterside cafes and cobbled streets lined with shops. Afterwards, with fantastic panoramas and a spectacular mountain backdrop, travel onwards for a visit to picturesque Malcesine, famed for its medieval Scaligero Castle.  The boat will then return to Riva del Garda, but if you wish to stay on, you may return by public bus or boat later in the afternoon (this will be at your own expense). If remaining in Malcesine, we recommend a trip in the cable car which will take you 1,800 metres above sea level, with spectacular views.    Please note that this schedule refers to summer season only, and is weather-dependent.  During winter months, there will be an excursion to Bolzano, in scenic southern Tyrol.

Afternoon

At Leisure

You will have the remainder of the day to relax and enjoy Lake Garda's charms. Shop, sightsee at your own pace or sit by the lake and take in the incredible views. You can take a water taxi across the lake to explore at your leisure and your local guide will be happy to suggest activities to suit your interests and advise which highlights are a must see. 

Day 3 – At Leisure

Today, you will have the day at leisure.  In the heart of Riva del Garda is the Piazza III Novembre, surrounded by 14th century porticos and the Apponale Tower, a former defence tower and World War I prison. This square is a beautiful place to explore during your free time. Don’t forget to check with your local guide who will be delighted to suggest further activities to suit your interests.  There will also be an optional excursion to the Dolomites, one of Italy's most stunning mountain ranges. This will be available to you on any of your leisure days.

Day 5 – Venice

Today you will explore the enchanting warren of canals, quaint alleys and busy squares that make up the fascinating city of Venice. Known as 'La Serenissima' or ‘The most Serene,’ Venice is a prized jewel in Italy's glorious crown.  On arrival in Venice you will take a guided tour of the city, to witness famous landmarks such as the bustling St. Mark's Square, the stunning Gothic building of Ca’ d’Oro, and the imposing marble Palazzo Ducale. Admire 16th and 17th art in the Gallera Franchetti or take a photograph on the Ponte di Rialto. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore the numerous piazzas, bridges and dwellings that adorn the quaysides of Venice's extensive network of canals. 

Day 5 – At Leisure

Today, you will have the day at leisure to enjoy the beautiful lakeside setting, shopping for local craft souvenirs or enjoying a coffee, gelato or glass of wine at a local café.

Day 6 – Opera performance

Opera Performance

You will have the morning free to relax and explore the surroundings of your hotel, you will dine for lunch at the hotel as opposed to dinner, allowing you a free evening to enjoy the opera.  The opera this year will be Aida by Verdi. Aida consists of 4 acts and tells the tale of an Ethiopian princess enslaved by an Egyptian Pharaoh. One of the world's most famous operas, it is sure to enthrall. 

Afternoon

Lunch & Opera performance

Enjoy a leisurely lunch at your hotel. Afterwards, you will take a guided transfer to Verona for a spellbinding night at the Opera in the historic Arena di Verona. Following the performance you will take a return transfer to your hotel. 

Day 7 – At Leisure

Spend your last day enjoying the beautiful lakeside setting, shopping for last minute souvenirs or enjoying a coffee, gelato or glass of wine at a local café.

You will be transferred to the airport with guide assistance for your flight home.
