Food & Drink
As with almost every European capital city, there is a wide selection of international food available in Berlin. Refreshingly though, Berliners have quite a different take on convenience food and the usual fast food restaurants like McDonalds are less common. Holiday highlights

Brandenburg Gate

This gate was built during the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm II as a symbol of peace, but became a symbol of East/West division and a locked door in the Berlin Wall. The gate is closed to traffic, as is the adjacent Pariser Platz, a gracious square that was once surrounded with beautiful buildings sadly destroyed in the Second World War.

Checkpoint Charlie

The infamous border crossing point in the wall that divided West and East Berlin has now become a shrine to the wall's memory. Between 1961 and 1990, Checkpoint Charlie was the only crossing point between East and West Berlin.

Eastside Gallery

The remains of the infamous Berlin Wall have now become the largest open-air art gallery in the world. The longest section of the wall, which has been preserved, stretches from Ostbahnhof station to the Oberbaumbrucke, and has been given over to graffiti artists from around the world. We recommend you visit during your free time.

Hamburger Bahnhof

Housed in a train station, the historic Hamburger Bahnhof was built in 1846 at the Tiergarten, and was badly damaged during the Second World War, but has been restored and reopened. This art gallery is filled with works by the likes of Andy Warhol, Josephy Beuys and Roy Lichtenstein. Try to make time to visit during your leisure time

Exploring the city

Artistic and creative, Berliners love to decorate and add interest to their city through street art making Berlin an incredibly interesting city to explore on foot. Although Berlin is a large city, all sights are easily accessible via the extensive underground train system. It's worth investing in a day ticket if you're planning on covering longer distances.
