Travel by hydrofoil from Sorrento to the beautiful island of Capri, for a full day excursion. Home to rare birds, historic churches and fashionable hotels, Capri is full of all sorts of wonderful sights and sounds. Walk through the harbour of Marina Piccola, explore chic Capri town, take in the views from hilltop Anacapri, and see the ruins of Imperial Roman villas.
This morning, enjoy a guided tour of Sorrento, followed by free time to explore this lovely town at your own pace.
In the afternoon, you’ll pay a visit to the ancient ruins of Pompeii. Time was frozen in the year 79AD for the 25,000 people of Pompeii, smothered by ashes from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. There will be a guided tour of the excavations at this fascinating site.
A transfer to and from Sorrento town centre will be provided today. Piazza Tasso is the hub of the town, and the historic quarter is close by, with plenty of cafes, shops and interesting small streets. Check out the church of St. Antonino, the town’s patron saint, and then make your way to Sorrento’s fishing village, Marina Grande, for an al fresco lunch and maybe a refreshing dip in the sea!
On this magical full day excursion, travel along the Amalfi Coast, renowned for its breathtaking scenery and pastel coloured villages, perched over the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. After a stop at picture-perfect Positano to drink in the view, you’ll continue to the lovely maritime town of Amalfi, and on to the hilltop village of Ravello, to visit the Cloister of Paradise and Villa Rufolo.
Please note that the order of excursions on this itinerary may vary slightly. Your day to day itinerary will be advised with your travel documents.
Sorrento - Set on a spectacular headland, Sorrento boasts wonderful views across the Bay of Naples to Capri and Ischia. The town’s historic quarter radiates from Via San Cesareo, where there’s excellent shopping and a host of restaurants and pavement cafes. Further highlights include the peaceful cloisters of San Francesco, the Duomo (cathedral), the Correale Museum and atmospheric Marina Grande, the original fishing village at sea level.
Capri - The island of Capri is famously a playground for the glitterati, but it is also well-known for its natural beauty. During the day the light dips the island into different colours and enchants the viewer.
Amalfi Coast – The winding road from the Sorrento Peninsula to Amalfi is one of Europe’s most scenic routes, with views over the pretty village of Positano, Capri and the Galli Islands. The former maritime superpower of Amalfi is today a welcoming resort town, with a beautiful cathedral dedicated to Sant’Andrea.
Mount Vesuvius - One of few decade volcanoes left in Europe, Mount Vesuvius offers great hiking and spectacular views. Infamous for destroying the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79AD, it is now a national park and a walker’s paradise.
Inlaid woodwork – Sorrento has a proud tradition of handcrafted ‘intarsio’, or marquetry. You can see fine examples of this craft, including heirloom furniture, at the Bottega della Tarsia Lignea Museum. There are several showrooms and shops in the town, where you can also buy smaller inlaid woodwork items such as pretty music boxes.
